With the recent threat of Hurricane “Arthur” we are all reminded of the need to prepare for Florida’s tumultuous annual hurricane season.
It’s great to know that while you are designing your new home, selecting your layout, elevation, options and colors, your premier, on-your-lot, custom home builder – Rotunda Homes – will build your home to the highest quality standards, using construction methods and materials to minimize damage and lessen the effects of hurricanes’ damaging wind, rain and flooding.
Rotunda Homes’ standards typically exceed hurricane codes established by the State of Florida Building Department. Our features include: monolithic slab foundations with an abundance of steel reinforcements, concrete masonry block walls with steel hurricane straps fastened to engineered roof trusses and exterior walls, 16” on-center framing for all interior and exterior walls, and “DenShield” tile backer in all critical wet areas. Also, we use 4-ply plywood in lieu of OSB for the roof decking. We then install fungus resistant 30 year dimensional shingles. We believe that plywood far outperforms OSB in situations of high wind.
Our expertise has been requested by insurance companies over the past decade to evaluate the damage caused by storms. Upon our analysis of methods and materials used, we found our construction to be far superior than most. The homes built with our standards were still standing, and often only slightly damaged, when compared to the devastation and loss of residences around them.
Imagine your comfort level when you hear of an approaching storm, knowing you and your family live in a Rotunda Home!
